Tia Patty makes it with a lot of love. We all know grandmas are the best cooks in the family and our granny Amparito is the best cook of the entire family. Aunt Patty, our head chef, learned everything from abuelita Amparito, and she has brought that with her to boho mexica. Enough said . . .

After living in Texas for a year, Ben returned to London incredulous as to why the food of Mexico, so well represented across the US, had been so neglected in his home country. A series of chance meetings led him to a head chef who shared his passion for this wonderful, fresh food.
That chef was Felipe Fuentes Cruz who brings a unique quality and unrivalled cooking pedigree to the restaurant group. Together they have developed a simple and fresh menu that showcases the best of Mexico’s food and drink.

There is a story that during the Mexican Revolution (1910-1921), in Juárez, Chihuahua (Northern Mexico) a man named Juan Méndez sold tacos from a street stand, using a donkey to transport himself and his food. To help keep the food warm, he had the idea of wrapping the food in a large flour tortilla inside individual napkins. His fame spread and people came and asked for the “food of the burrito” (donkey).
Burritos are one of the most popular examples of Mexican cuisine throughout the world. We think Juan and his donkey would be proud of the tradition he started over a century ago.

Mestizo was born from a work of love in 2004. When we first opened our doors we knew the huge responsibility that we had in bringing the very best of Mexican cuisine to Londoners. We believe our gastronomy has so much to offer, it’s vibrant, it’s diverse, colourful and simply delicious. In the last decade, we’ve been working hard to be the best ambassadors of our gastronomy as we can, and today we are proud to celebrate it with all of you.

Taquería started life as a Cool Chile Co stall on Portobello Road, where we serving tacos and aguas frescas to the Mexican starved crowd of Notting Hill. After too many British winters we decided it was time to get in off the street and put a roof over our heads. In 2005 we opened Taquería in Westbourne Grove, where we have stayed warm and dry ever since. Our tacos are, of course, our speciality, served with traditional and modern fillings on our own soft corn tortillas, using free range meat, eggs, milk and sustainable fish. We also serve a selection ceviches, tostadas, weekday Mexican lunch plates plus changing specials menu. If you are feeling thirsty, we make a mean hand-shaken margarita and pour a variety of 100% blue agave tequilas, mezcales, micheladas and wines. To find out more, check out our menus.
